Stephanie Owens, Chief Operating Officer, writes: 98% of the families ChildKind serves live well below the federal poverty rate and 75% are unable to work due to their child’s care needs. As a result, many of the caregivers and families served do not have the resources to purchase basic baby supplies to include diapers and cribs. Helping Mamas serves a critical role in our effort to provide the necessary supports to caregivers and families-with the number one goal of ensuring the children’s safety and well being. ChildKind understands the importance of offering infants a safe place to sleep and those with  special healthcare needs are even more vulnerable. Co-sleeping is especially dangerous for children with special healthcare needs where the child may have respiratory issues and/or specialized equipment. We are extremely grateful to Helping Mamas!! Alone, we are not always able to provide cribs and basic baby supplies that parents need because of limited funding. Helping Mamas fills a significant gap that enhances our services to our families.
